Description
The swimming pool is one of the largest in the area, 16m by 6 M. It is delightfully situated on a secluded lower terrace, surrounded by greenery and with ample paved terraces for sunbathing. There are showers and sun beds. There is a vast mountain panorama from the poolside. Conference room/workshops. On a lower terrace, separated from the main buildings by a small garden, is a large workshop (90m2), with its own washing and changing facilities, storage space and fully equipped with tables, chairs, mattresses, sound system - for whatever use. There is a large terrace with barbecue and a covered verandah with seating. The library contains one of the largest private collections of material relating to the alpujarra and sierra nevada. The up to date bibliography lists books, journals, and papers on topics as varied as Socio-Economics, topography, culture, maps, novels and diaries. Stables and home farm. One of the most spectacular sights at the alquería is the sunset, which is best seen from here - from the old era (threshing floor) one looks westwards along the whole of the guadalfeo valley. The cortijo (group of farm buildings) comprises stabling for horses, henhouses, dovecote, fish pond; and ducks, turkeys and rabbits are reared. Here also is an organic kitchen garden which provides for the restaurant. Wine vaults run alongside the covered walkway leading to the entrance hall. The floors are stone flagged and the ceilings are of cane and beams, from which hang serrano hams. Along one wall there is a varied collection of huge 'ali baba' jars for storing olive oil and the vaults are again put to practical use during the grape harvest, when the grapes are treaded in vats in the old way. The alquería makes its own wine and oil. There are two dining rooms at the alquería: one large and rustic with stone flagged floor, chestnut beams, inglenook fireplace, cosy public bar and french windows opening on to a terraced garden. The second dining room is quite different, decorated in an unpretentious and eclectic mix of late 19th century furnishings and paintings. Its many ledges and shelves serve to show off some of the owner's innumerable collections. Use arrows to view imagesAmenities Available
